A watermelon with butterfly wings that weighs 1.5 kg, goes in the microwave whole, and is meant for a made bed rather than a toy box. It is sillier than it sounds and more serious than it looks.
Where this actually is
It isn’t made yet. There are concept renders, a dimensioned spec sheet, a factory conversation in progress, and a founder writing down what happens twice a week.
There is also one number we don’t have: how long it actually stays warm. Beads and cherry pits behave differently and nobody has measured either one in this construction. When the first samples land we will time them and print the result, whatever it says. Read what’s happened so far.
Two parts
Velboa — short-pile, dense, matte, and chosen partly because the long shaggy stuff sheds on everything it meets. It unzips off the core in one piece and goes in the machine, which is the thing almost nothing else in this category can do.
Glass micro-beads in their own sealed pouch, about 1.5 kg of them. That is the weighted-hug part and the warm part at once: the whole thing goes in the microwave with the cover still on, and the pouch is sealed so a wash can never reach the filling.
Why warmth and weight
Your body reads a warm, steady weight as safety.
Heat relaxes the smooth muscle underneath it and encourages blood flow; broad, even pressure appears to shift the nervous system towards the state it uses for rest. Neither is a cure for anything, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Both are why a hot water bottle has outlived most of the medicine cabinet.

For the days that ache
Heat is the oldest answer to cramp there is, and the one most people reach for before anything else. This is a version of it that weighs enough to stay where you put it, doesn't need a socket, and doesn't look like it came from a pharmacy.
For the end of the day
The half hour before sleep is the hardest one to spend well. Something warm and heavy to hold is a slower, less demanding way through it than another screen — and it asks nothing of you at all.
